A recent study carried out by Engage Mutual on people over the age of 50 has indicated that they are healthier and fitter than they were in their 20s.
The study found that 20% of the 1,500 over-50s feel more energetic than they did during their 20s. It also found that more than 70% do more exercise than when they were younger. A similar number of people pay more attention to their regular diet.
The results of the study challenges the many preconceptions linked to ageing. In view of the fact that people will be experiencing increased life expectancy, this new development among over-50s will make their later years far more pleasurable. Current life expectancy predications indicate that 65-year old men could expect to live another 17 years, while women could live another 20 years.
Over 50s who have excess weight that they have difficulty in losing could heed results of a study carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health which suggests that eating a healthy diet is a more effective method of weight loss than simply counting calories.
